Fruit of the Cocklebur

These sharp looking things are the fruits of the Common Cocklebur (Xanthium strumarium). The seeds inside are very poisonous. Do not eat. The fruits easily attach to clothing, fur, shoes, hair. Whatever you've got! A European plant in the same family was the inspiration for Velcro.
