If he catches you, you're through!

I admit I was surprised to see a roadrunner with prey this large (young Round-tailed Ground Squirrel). A few days after Ned sent me this photo, though, I received another one of a similar scene, taken in a different area. So there you are: Evidence that roadrunners prey upon Round-tailed Ground Squirrels.

The title is a reference to the theme song from the Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner cartoons from Warner Bros. If you'd like to get the song stuck in your head, click here! Despite the success of the cartoon, there's no unaltered photographic evidence that coyotes prey upon roadrunners, with ACME products or otherwise. (If you have some, please send it along.) In the meantime, watch out for those roadrunners!
