There be Giants!

These extra-long lizards are the Giant Spotted - even though they look striped - (subspecies of Canyon Spotted) Whiptails. Some experts think they are now their own species, but some don't.
If you take out your copy of A Naturalist's Guide to Sabino Canyon, 2nd Edition, 2012, you'll note that there's only a description of this (sub)species on page 36. Now you know what they look like!

While you are on page 36, please fix a typo in the middle of the page, under the Sonoran Spotted/Gila Spotted Group. Should be: parthenogenesis. Oops.
